When the Athenians established the first democracy, they knew the only way to make it work was to ensure the leaders were held responsible for their actions.

I'd accept that reasoning, so long as it meant we didn't have to swallow all that garbage about entrepreneurs being big risk takers.

Yes, of course it's better than nothing.
The difference is that you get private assets seized and the prospect of prison if you fail to pay your council tax.

You probably know more about this than I do, but I expect the limited liability law will mean that they won't be paying back anything close to £122m.

A wealth tax to fund defence would be a comparatively easy sell too. People with more money have more to lose in the event of a war, so they should pay more.
That was the reasoning behind income tax when it was introduced in 1799.
I guess we'd still see Reform voters crying buckets for the rich!
