Since I don't want to watch Angel's Egg again until the home video release comes out, time to settle for the next best thing

Find someone who looks at you the way Orson Welles looks when he's talking about Gary Cooper

#206. Gatchaman: Only One Earth by Tommy Lee Edwards,
Nuno Plati, Giada Marchisio, Nicola "Nik" Righi, & John Workman
Miniseries about Galactor blowing up a country so they can use fungus powered mechs to further their plans. It's more somber than that description suggests, but I had a fun time.

#205. Gatchaman: Galactor by Steve Orlando, Kath Lobo, Pasquale Qualano, Serg Acuña, Rebecca Nalty, & Frank Cvetkovic
Berg Katse is such a bastard. I think I like this more than main series, in no small part because Berg is the exact kind of flashy evil villain that Orlando excels at writing

It also has a little bonus story by Tommy Lee Edwards, Daniel Hansen, & John Workman that's brief, but I really enjoy because of Hansen's art. It's got this inky, scratchy quality that I'm not sure is very Gatchaman, but looks really cool with these designs

#204. Gatchaman Vol. 1 by Cullen Bunn, Chris Batista, Sabrina Cintron, Carlos Lopez, & Buddy Beaudoin
Slightly western-superhero take on Gatchaman (which basically just means there's a bit of blood in some of the fight scenes) that otherwise feels like a pretty good rendition of a Gatchaman episode

#203. Springsteen: Deliver Me from Nowhere (2025)
It's a music biopic! I think there's a pretty good movie in here, but its one where someone along the line trusted the audience more and did less of that "spell out the theme so the dumb audience doesn't miss it stuff" & not make a up a whole person

#202. "The Prowler in the City at the Edge of the World" by Harlan Ellison [from Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison]
Sequel to the above story, about Jack the Ripper being stuck in a cold, sterile, amoral future that is technically what he wanted all along, in the worst way possible

#201. "A Toy for Juliette" by Robert Bloch [from Dangerous Visions, edited by Harlan Ellison]
Sadistic woman in the future has been using grandpa's time machine to find men from the past to torture and kill, but her latest prey has a nasty surprise for her. (He's Jack the Ripper)

#200. Tsunami by Ned Wenlock
Surprisingly bleak YA story about an alienated kid in New Zealand and his attempts to be friends with the cool new girl in school. The cute look art style disarms you before delivering a pretty well constructed story about bullying, family dynamics, and other fun topics

#199. All-New Wolverine, Vol. 1: The Four Sisters by Tom Taylor, David López, David Navarrot, Nathan Fairbairn, & Cory Petit/Virtual Calligraphy
Damn fine super hero comics. It's fun watching X-23 run around with a bunch of clones and have her own supporting cast, def going to read more of this

The thing that stood out the most to me this time is just how good it looks, Mazzucchelli and Lewis are working on an absolute other level here. Just some of the best any comic from anywhere has ever looked ever

#198. Batman: Year One by Frank Miller, David Mazzucchelli, Richmond Lewis, & Todd Klein
What a miracle. Four people working at the absolute peak of their talents to make art. It's amazing how hard this still hits decades later

#197. Good Morning, Great Old One by Tsuyoshi Takaki
Short one-shot by the Black Torch/Heart Gear guy about an eldritch horror becoming friend with a random schoolgirl he meets on the beach. It's only 11 pages long, but they're a hoot. Make me want to finish Takaki's other series that I've started

#196. VIRGIN PUNK Clockwork Girl (2025)
This fucking rules. @jetzeroinfinity.bsky.social compared this to an actual 80s/90s OVA that got pulled out of cold storage and that's really what it feels like. Intentional grimey and violent, but also smart? Or at least with a clear point it's trying to make

#195. Angel's Egg (1985)
I'm not sure I "got" this movie after one watch, but it was honestly kind fun by itself watching an anime that left me feeling a little unsure and confused, which is not a sensation I've had since watching stuff like Lain and Boogiepop Phantom as a teenager

#194. Pride (2014)
Pretty good historical drama about queer/miner labor solidarity in Thatcher-era Britain! I'm not familiar enough with this topic to comment on the accuracy or anything, but it's well put together, that doesn't feel too pat or neat, & all the actors are great. Good times!

#193. Junk (1997) by Jejune
90s emo from Boston/San Diego. This is the kind of 90s rock that I generally need a few listens to before I can sort out if I like it or not, but it's pretty solid on first listen. Thanks to Numero Group for putting on my radar

#192. Starting Point: 1979-1996 by Hayao Miyazaki
A collection of essays, articles, interviews with, and more by Miyazaki. Really interesting stuff if your curious about Miyazaki as an artist and for a glimpse into what the anime industry in the 70s and 80s was like

#191. Mkwaju (1981) by Mkwaju Ensemble
Percussion ensemble plays suite by Joe Hisaishi. The playing is excellent and it's kind of delightful that the Ghibli Soundtrack Guy has a whole parallels career where he explores an obvious love of minimalism and modern classical music
November 17, 2025 at 8:20 PM
My favorite part of the Virgin Punk BTS stuff was the room they shot one of the segments in has all kind of cool records on display, with maybe the most prominent one being...Bruce Springsteen's dicorce-core classic Tunnel of Love

#190. Wallace and Gromit: A Close Shave (1995)
There's a bit towards the beginning of this short where you can see three difference actions happening in three different plans of the shot and thinking about the logistics of planning that shot, much less shooting it, makes my brain hurt.

#189. The WereCleaner
Delightful little stealth/comedy game about a werewolf having to do his office cleaning job during a full moon (he needs to make his rent) while trying to not be spotted so he isn't compelled to eat people. It's short, but nicely repayable and it's FREE! A quality time

#188. Isekai Metaller (Vol. 1) by Kasuga Ryo
They finally did it, they made an isekai series I actually want to read. And all they had to do was make it about a well meaning metal head who wants to bring about world piece through metal and can also shoot lighting out of his guitar
