SteamVR on Linux does work but there are severe issues with reprojection that make VRChat specifically unplayable
This might improve soon with the Steam Frame's arrival but that's just my guess

I don't dislike the retro styled ones but it feels like there's a gulf left for something slower and more grounded where Half-Life/Crysis/FEAR/Halo/BioShock/Killzone/Resistance/Titanfall/earlier Battlefields & Call of Dutys all used to live (to varying degrees, some of those are faster than others)

Something with a story campaign and cool set pieces but no retro stylings
It seems like campaigns now generally come with floating/spinning/glowing pickups, centered weapons, pixel/2.5D graphics, a minimal control scheme (no ADS/leaning) and very fast-paced gameplay or some combination thereof

I believe this is Ancient Dungeon? It's been out a few years and has been very well received

Sorry if I butchered the French flag, the configuration UI isn't quite working yet so I had to hack the design in via save file editing

And some extremely jank SSR, everything in this scene is fudged numbers and synchronization issues.

This is great info, thank you all! I wouldn't have guessed the ultimate source was the display hardware

Coincidentally I think also explains what was failing in a 1080p monitor I had years ago which went through periods of pretending to only support 640x480

Now you mention it I do see the similarity, not a bad recommendation at all
I'm flexible on the "occult" part really, I just included that so people would better grasp what I mean

This is exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for, thanks!
