Thank you to Riva Evstifeeva for welcoming me at the Bibliothèque russe Tourguenev. A fascinating history, dating back to the 1860s, & intertwined w/ revolutionary & feminist history & various waves of emigration. And, since today is Pushkin's bday, here she is w/ наше всё! tourguenev.fr/francais/

My sign for today's local protest: Not very creative, bit hopefully clear. I can't wait to check in this evening and see photos from around the country.

Any #UNC folks out there seeking housing: Lovely 2-bdr apt; walking distance to campus, private garage w/brand new washer & dryer, central A/C, giant covered porch. My son lived here for almost 2 years; only left because he moved out of the country. www.louisebeckproperties.com/view/603_Cot...

We're visiting our younger son who is on his JYA in Tübingen, Germany. "Glory to Ukraine" freshly written near a church and "This is no longer the time of kings," from a Hölderlin play at his "tower" museum. The messages seemed fitting: Up with Ukraine and down with wanna-be kings like Trump!

From our Oct 29 event with Elena Kostyuchenko. I highly recommend her book. Don't be put off by the title. Elena has been an independent journalist and activist against the Putin regime for many years and offers an unflinching, often heartbreaking, look at her homeland over the past few decades.

I finally took the plunge and deactivated my Twitter account (@RUSDavidson). Please send suggestions on accounts to follow here in English, Russian, or French, for Russia (literature, history, film, politics), analysis/reporting on Russia's war against Ukraine, and all things 18th century.
