Early sketches of Key for webcomic "Book of Change". Wasn't very happy with these at the time so decided to design the character later when I get there in the story. Exploration sketches for Key for possible shapes. Also contains practice study sketches from actual birds. Sketches just before making the character reference sheet for Key. Getting close to character design that feels 'correct' and is easy enough to draw for the comic.

I tried to incorporate elements from both the object itself as well as Murmeli's shapes, since key is a part of him.

It has been a while since I did the last batch. Really happy how these turned out!

Don't have a table at the festival, but I'll hand these out to people interested (if I can work up the courage for it).

Went together with a friend to print out stickers for the Helsinki comic festival. Had some issues with the width settings, so the sticker positioning isn't perfectly optimal. We managed to fit them to the material limit though!

The new stickers turned out so well and exited to show them later!

Drawing hand ouchies continue. Caught symptoms early and have meds and exercise instructions to help remedy it.

Luckily enough page buffer so no issues with next update, but... recommendation to not draw until wrist recovers is a bummer though.

Remember to take breaks and stretch! Don't be me. :"D

Process descriptions continue. There were so many things I wanted to talk about, but so little space.

Speech bubbles & Panels: Next is speech bubbles and panel borders. CSP has tools for both. Flow is important for reading order when speech bubbling. Especially if your character is prone to monologues. Inking: Inking is one of my favorite steps. I currently ink on vector layers. My characters have a lot of swooshy curves, so ability to tweak things helps! Backgrounds... may complicate things. Flat colors: When flatting, I pick the flats from a character color cheat sheet. It also contains notes for any "variants" a character may have and info of e.g. what opacity the glasses are. All the character flats go inside a mask folder. Shading & Effects: Last step: adding shading, highlights, texture, gradients and other effects to make the page pop! Sometimes I go a bit overboard... I do love dramatic lighting.

Webcomic day comic process for "Book of Change". Hello! I'm Minna. Here's a short description of the process of making a page spread for "Book of Change" webcomic. Hope you'll like it! Outline & Script: I start a story with a rough outline for the whole plot - including the ending. I don't have a lot of time to focus on writing, so usually I work on the refined script on the go in short scene snippets. Doodling & Thumbnails: In addition to writing, I often sketch out the scenes on post-its. It is useful especially for testing out story beats and gathering ideas for the future. My thumbnails are kinda impossible to read. Layout & Dialog: When it is time to draw the page, I sketch the page spread layout and do final edits to the dialog. This step requires a lot of brain power and is often THE cause for delays.
