Spotted more of our #IconicFishes today. Would love to see some handknitted clothing with #seahorses! Read all about our arts movement for conservation... and consider what you might contribute, as a crafter, artist, musician, dancer, baker or
maker! www.iconicfishes.art.

So sad that a marine cone snail (Conus lugubris) has just been declared Extinct on the #IUCNRedList. Being predatory and venomous was not enough to save it. Degradation of its Cabo Verde habitats was the main problem. www.iucnredlist.org/search?query...

It's been a long and wonderful day at #OOS2025. Sitting on our apartment balcony, watching lots of swifts fly over terracotta roofs.

Sadly, some ocean businesses had to close to allow #OOS2025 & #UNOC3 to take place in Nice's Port Lympia. So sorry. Let's give them some business next time we come to Nice.

Our #OOS2025 poster on how #BottomTrawling is flying blind - we know so little about its ecological impacts - has attracted much interest. Joana diCapitani led on identifying huge knowledge gaps. Sarah Foster led on tallying affected fish species. @projectseahorse.bsky.social @ubcoceans.bsky.social

In honour of the UN Ocean Conference next week, Nice (France) is celebrating the Ocean all year. And our #IconicFishes are featured in public art. Seadragons and Ghost Pipefishes. What could be more glorious? #OOS2025 @projectseahorse.bsky.social @iucnseahorse.bsky.social @ubcoceans.bsky.social

My second talk yesterday was on "Why do fishers start, stay in and stop bottom trawl fishing in India?". Wonderful analysis by Roshni Mangar (with Sarah Foster & me). Generated much interest and offers ways forward. #OOS2025 @projectseahorse.bsky.social @ubcoceans.bsky.social

Yesterday, I was proud to talk on "What Happens to Marine Biota When We Stop Bottom Trawling?" Joana deCapitani, our PhD student led on this first-ever impressive global review (w Sarah Foster & me). Many people wanted to discuss. @projectseahorse.bsky.social @ubcoceans.bsky.social #OOS2025

At #OOS2025, the meetings are held at Port Lympia (NIce, France), right on the water, in temporary buildings. Inspirational venue.
