Collegial governance structures can be democratic as long as everyone is operating in good faith. Unfortunately, they are also vulnerable to people on power trips, narcissists etc whose main goal is not to improve the institution, but to harm whoever they can reach.

This (new?) phenomenon of withholding/retracting degrees is so abominable. Columbia seems to be the trendsetter as w/ so many awful trends but NYU’s holding its own in the race to the bottom. Also IT’S GALLATIN of all NYU schools. What’s more “individualized” than this?!
