Lots of shitting

This has already happened with the introduction of automated espresso machines. Starbucks baristas don’t have to worry about grinding or dosing espresso at all. The average Starbucks worker has few skills that can be transferred to a smaller pool of artisan coffeehouse jobs. Ask me how I know!

Also, once again, let’s be real. No union could ever save rideshare without introducing an absolutely massive racket of economic inefficiency. No union can save Starbucks worker jobs which will decline slowly as the job is progressively automated.

Fwiw I may in fact code but I am not a software engineer lol, I work in a job that is very easily automated and very much at risk here too.

It is reasonable to lament that the backbone of this nascent unionization movement is ultimately going to fizzle out I think! We should prepare for that. I don’t think their labor is worth less than mine, I worked in restaurants until quite recently.

No, I called certain labor organizers I know personally (often from participating in these labor campaigns!) delusional about the state of technology, not about their desire to better their labor and economic conditions. That part is good.

just retroarch actually!!!
December 12, 2025 at 6:35 PM
southerners will get mad about it!!
December 12, 2025 at 6:15 PM
yes, Latin Americans (notice that term…Americans) often refer to the continents as América and the people as Americanos.
December 12, 2025 at 6:15 PM
…this persons name did seem familiar

I am glad I avoided philosophy proper in favor of the only fields where true scientism is still being tried (film and anthropology)
December 12, 2025 at 5:35 PM
I go to efforts to recognize the reasons one would want to unionize!
December 12, 2025 at 5:34 PM
wdym lol
December 12, 2025 at 5:26 PM
in the languages spoken in all of these countries it is not at all unusual to use american without regard to any specific country, it's just a direct translation of long established terms in Spanish (and Portuguese) that reflect ethnic identities, e.g. American as opposed to European.
December 12, 2025 at 5:16 PM
it is particularly bad on android tho
December 12, 2025 at 5:06 PM
wdym? there's only rly one.
December 12, 2025 at 5:05 PM
actually more than three, I'm excluding central america. still pretty helpful to differentiate!
December 12, 2025 at 4:54 PM
there's three countries on this continent and an entire separate continent also named 'america'. fine to use american in shorthand but USian etc are useful differentiators + far more polite than some of the alternatives :)

NY State keeps trying to ban automated subway trains, which essentially makes the experience worse for everyone
December 12, 2025 at 3:58 PM
nooooooooo
December 12, 2025 at 3:40 PM
it's a 20 minute walk from Inman Park which personally I would do if it was reasonably nice out but telling a stranger to do that just sucks, even if from NYC
December 12, 2025 at 3:28 PM
that part is fine to get to.

getting from downtown to the part b/w Edgewood and Irwin? not great
