A few times in a century, some individuals literally revolutionize a complete field of research thanks to a genius idea that they push and develop up to a point where it becomes a game changing experiment.

A successful laser communication over 300 million kilometers with speeds up to 1.8 Mbps ! This is something that really impress me !
I would like to know the technical details that made possible this achievement.
Is there a publication on this @esa.int ?

ESA wraps up 300-million-kilometre optical communication campaign
Over the summer, the European Space Agency ran an optical communication demonstration campaign using two observatories on Earth and NASA’s Psyche mission. All four optical links were successful.

The @vrubinobs.bsky.social has a seismometer inside the pier which is supporting the telescope. Out of curiosity I had a look at the data after the mag 8.8 earthquake that occurred in Kamchatka on July 29th and to my surprise I got the following !

During the Science Verification and Validation phase of the @vrubinobs.bsky.social we were lucky to capture images of the 3I/ATLAS interstellar comet. After the announcement of the discovery we looked at our data and saw that the interstellar body was present in 37 images !

Outch ! That is impressive !
I am wondering how they managed to harden the electronics. I guess that the radiation level is pretty intense !

I feel proud to be on this 3.2 Giapixel image.
It really gives the sense of the incredible size and resolution of the focal plane of @vrubinobs.bsky.social giant camera.
The size of the file containing the uncompressed image is "only" 750 MB !
Did someone say #NationalCameraDay? 📷

We wanted to celebrate ours by creating a giant 3200-megapixel group photo inspired by our LSST Camera...and here it is, featuring many of YOU!

The LSST 3.2 Gpixel camera is now installed on the Simonyi telescope. This is a major achievement !
Lights, camera, action!

The world's largest digital camera has been installed at NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory! 🤩

The LSST Camera was the final major component of the observatory. With it in place, Rubin officially enters its final phase of testing!🔭

This test of the rotator is an important milestone for the @vrubinobs.bsky.social
We also see that the 3.2 GigaPixel camera is now attached to the piece of hardware (the blueish part at 00:10) that will connect it to the telescope.
You spin us right round, right round 🎶

Our summit team recently tested the function that the camera rotator is named for and all went well!

The remaining steps to complete before we install the largest camera in the world on our telescope are rapidly shrinking...stay tuned! 👀

Today I needed the coordinates of the Abell 360 galaxy cluster, so for fun, I decided to ask ChatGPT and DeepSeek.
ChatGPT (free version) just said that it doesn't know this cluster !
DeepSeek said that the cluster is in the Volans galaxy (wrong) and gives me totally wrong coordinates.

- And then there’s the dystopias about burning books and banned books and fascism (Bradbury & Orwell)
