Withering Rooms has janky pre-canned animations and clunky combat but it's made up with a macbre and somewhat whimsical set design and story. It's got some good build variety too giving you multiple options to find ways to get stronger depending on gear drops and preferance.

Astlibra uses a collage style for the environments it's weird at first but you get used to it pretty quick I think. Character and boss art is drawn by Vanillaware artist Shigetake so no problems there. It's got some great character growth systems that makes use of everything.

Grounseed "The Origin" was a bonus album that came if you bought the full set. Ryu Takami is the main composer but no less deserving of your time.
I have no choice but to believe that 80's/90's JP game composers were simply built different.
