I haven't played the FULL thing in awhile, but with that noted I'd definitely say yes. It's not a game built for 3D, and the ps2/1.5 collection version is deeply flawed for trying it. It's harder on the GBA, but it's also just way better designed. Plus it has a charm unique to itself on GBA.
