Original thread from making the sign, and there’s more on mastodon. Last night I made a snap-in holder for cylindrical 18650 battery banks and taped it to the back of my sign with some VHB. Makes changing batteries much easier than just taping them to the back of the sign.

Some photos from the workshop. Proceeds from the sale of the yarn are going back to support Abby’s work with educating western crafters about indigenous Peruvian textile traditions and techniques.

We have a few bundles of this special yarn left and it’s now up on the website! I dyed it a few years ago in Peru when I had the opportunity to visit @abbysyarns.bsky.social and join a natural dyeing workshop at the Santo Tomas CTTC.

I can’t remember if these were for the looms or knitting machines (or both), but punch card machines are still in use in many places, this was from a tour of Jamieson’s of Shetland in 2016.

The second part showing how the front cover snaps into the bottom cover and the PCB. I knew I wanted the bottom cover to be the primary one, because it covers the battery and is most important. That left little room for the top cover to snap on, so it’s mostly notches for the bottom cover’s tabs.

Glowie assembly! Double-stick tape is already on the PCBs, I plug in a battery, peel the tape, stick the battery down, and dress the wires. Then I snap the bottom cover on, and snap the top cover on. #alpenglowies #glowies #ledjewelry
