I also think they like to think their prejudice is rationally justified and is just them being honest about what they think is reality. Other people are very prejudiced in their eyes, especially the targets of their hatred, for denying 'the truth', but not them, oh no...

It’s funny how we shy away from using the word racist. It’s because we know being racist is genuinely an awful thing. And yet, we cannot seem to bring ourselves to stamp out racism.

There is no excuse for racism, it was not playground banter as Farage claims - it was pure bullying. Racism is always directed, not matter which way the racist is facing.

It's possible to balance the moral necessity of pointing out Farage's racism with the need to be analytically clear about how many British voters share it

... and that is not me making an excuse for racism back then either. Racism suffered in the 60s, 70s, 80s has left scars which are still deep today.

There needs to be massive pushback against Farage's narrative about how he was only 11 / 12 and it being pointed out reports show he was an adult - 18 - at the time he was doing this.

He was 12 in 1976. He was 18 in 1982.

Whilst racism was rife in the 70s, Nazi-ism wasn't acceptable throughout.
