And to be clear, since you keep demonstrating that lack of critical thinking you mentioned, the problem is you are putting the blame for that hate on the people who are trying to raise awareness of the harm bigotry does instead of THE PEOPLE DOING THE HATING BECAUSE THEIR FEELINGS ARE HURT.

You're right. It's never a good thing when people read the natural outrage born of systematic oppression, of brutality and murder, of justice denied, and instead of responding to that pain, hate them all for how they expressed it because what they really care about is their own hurt feefees.

Those of us (ww) who actively fight for the rights of others would not thank you for turning the spotlight on us instead of where it needs to be. Conversations like this aren't about us. They're about the majority of white voters, the harm they cause, and the people they hurt. Sit down.

Ofc her mind didn't change, but I'm glad you were able to at least shut her up and spare your family member having to listen to any more of that bs. I hope healing is uncomplicated and that you and yours have the support to ease their recovery as much as possible.

And normal isn't even the point. Regardless of how normal/prevalent it is, an atrocity is still an atrocity.
For instance, there are countries and cultures where female genital mutilation is still a societal norm. That doesn't make it any less of an atrocity.

This matters outside of prisons, too. The mirrored sunglasses served a similar function to the shades and face coverings ICE agents now use, amplifying their us-vs-them mindset, diffusing responsibility, and freeing them to be their worst selves and celebrate their cruelty.
