My opinions for Reuters: "A diplomatic rift with China could have a bigger effect on Japan than just a dent in its tourism sector. What is crucial is Japan's stubborn dependence on rare earth metals, which has decreased very marginally since Japan tried to diversify."

The odd currency in #Asia this year is the #NTD. An incendiary article by @TheEconomist arguing that the NTD is undervalued (I cannot agree more!) and #Taiwan's central bank response (#CBC) denying it. NTD appreciated 2% but went back to square one (CBC must have been busy since...)

According to @Reuters, #Germany's trade deficit with #China has reached USD100b. German exports to China are experiencing negative double-digit growth. For a country with a structural trade surplus, this is something I would really focus on if I were a #German policy maker

🔬 What can Europe learn from China’s critical-tech innovation push?

With Europe lagging behind the US and China on critical tech, European policy makers must improve the EU's innovation environment.
