My review of Monster: The Ed Gein Story on letterbox'd: This is literally one of the worst peices of "true crime" storytelling I have ever witnessed. Its so violently homophobic, transphobic, generally queerphobic and it wildly misfires in the way it asks its audience to sympathize with Ed Gein because he's protrayed as some kind of Forrest Gump like simpleton. It absolutely feels like a hit peice against Anthony Perkins, focusing on his being a closeted gay actor in Hollywood and how monrtous he is for it, and Alfred Hitchcock and while also dripping with queerphobia and its many assertions that somehow queerness equates to monstrously violent bahavior. Dont waste your time on this absolute trash.

#NRW Alien 3 - Assembly Cut. Finally found the words to illuminate why I find it so compelling.
My review of Alien 3: Assembly Cut as published on my letterboxd account: I know this is a divisive film. I know it has some difficult subject matter and truly irredeemable characters. But thats the point. This film interrogates the christian idea of redemption through faith and actions. Can the worst people, be redeemed when the devil comes to their house to do the devils work? Can selfless action for the benefit of others truly offer salvation? And I find that fascinating and interesting idea for Hollywood sci-fi action horror film to ask. Especially when it doesn't offer comforting answers to those questions. That all that still shines through in the theatrical cut is a testament to Fincher's vision. A vision which comes through even more forcefully in the assembly cut which the version this review is on. Everything about this film is built to make you feel hopeless. Its relentlessly bleak and carries a feeling of inevitability through its entire run time. Yet at the end, even in death, there is a feeling of hope. I dunno, I've always held a soft spot for the film. Over time it became my favorite in the series, despite not being as well crafted as others. It's making huge swings thematically. I wish more films of its kind were willing to be as bold - even if it results in them not being well loved.

I've been on Blade binge lately and as part of that I read "Bloodline: The Daughter of Blade" by by Danny Lore ( @weredawgz.bsky.social ) and illustrated by Karen S. Darboe. What a great story! I am in LOVE with Brielle Brooks! Shes so fun! If you love Blade you'll love getting to met his daughter!
