right, the connection to Medicare is “public health insurance program that’s not restricted by employment or age, and has good vibes”. whether it should or not, it has a better public image than Medicaid or the VA

yeah i think ultimately the rationalists were right to be afraid of reason, because they swam optimistically into the dark and promptly got devoured by an eldritch horror called scientific racism

I was sitting in a coffee shop today, and someone came in complaining to the barista about how cold it is. and then proceeded to order an iced latte

living on the bakerloo line past Queen's Park got old, and something needs to be done about the metropolitan line/circle line situation

I've never looked into what's going on with the overground and why a bunch of those lines routinely have 15 minute headways

I don't know the Paris metro very well, but having lived in London for a long time: many lines have fantastic headways, even late at night, especially the newer ones. but even in zone 2, a lot of the older lines with more complex service patterns were dicey, waiting 10-15 minutes wasn't uncommon

it's not true ime (grew up in the northeast; spent a decade in the uk, mostly london). american supermarkets have far more variety and much better quality produce (especially tomatoes). the place uk supermarkets have an edge is in refrigerated prepared foods

do they still? the sizewell c project in the uk is contracted out to the french, and it's running into all the budget overrun issues we're familiar with in public infrastructure. I can't figure out how much of that is just down to interaction with the rest of the uk environment, though

last time I reread this debacle my conclusions were:
- Aaronson was depressed, autistic, overly-academically accelerated, and at college too young
- Alexander was describing a PTSD reaction from being aggressively criticized, had the professional background to know that's what he was describing

the Major General, vindicated: " I don't know whose ancestors they were, but I know whose ancestors they are, and I shudder to think that their descendant by purchase (if I may so describe myself) should have brought disgrace upon what, I have no doubt, was an unstained escutcheon."

is the issue that there's not a CDC recommendation to re-dose generic adults who've had a single dose? if so, there is a recommendation that you need two doses for international travel, so you could try saying you have upcoming travel plans

they have a showroom in lower manhattan where they'll take your measurements (and tell you what needs to be changed if the first shirt isn't quite right), I've been very happy with them

unfortunately tariffs have now hit their prices and I can't really justify the new shirts I wanted :-/
