And I want to believe that’s normally true. But even though it’s 2025 I’m still like, “if someone’s making more than a million dollars, unless they’re a pro athlete reaping the rewards of their gifts, they’ve gotta be fucking over SOMEONE.” lol

(I am probably wrong, as I so often am in debates)

I like when social media doesn’t devolve like it so often does, but instead is just people giving good-faith replies and sussing out shit to realize there’s just a reasonable
Debate happening. :)

And that makes sense. There are certain monetary levels that are triggers for working folks sometimes and they’re not always correct, so it makes sense to want more info. I think we seem to agree on the basic parameters but just had different responses to this instance. And that’s cool!

I always thought that until my partner got involved at a pretty high level of public health nonprofit work. It kind of shocked me what the “top level” pay was for them, and it’s mostly because they need to show the money is going where it’s needed. So I’m sympathetic when it seems like it’s not

And yes, that’s a problem everywhere, not just nonprofits

Okay I hear that but I don’t think calling out a CEO making over a milli a year while ostensibly helping folks is demanding “the people who work there” do it at a discount. If anything, that seems to suggest the money is not being distributed equitably among those workers?

Maybe I’m confused by getting angry at someone for thinking a CEO makes too much money relative to their ostensible goals. Doesn’t almost every CEO make too much money?

People call out unfairness of corporate vs. worker pay at chain stores all the time, don’t they?

The gap between “the people working there” and “the CEO pocketing over a million dollars” is not insignificant. I want the people at Taco Bell to make more. I want the CEO to make less. These aren’t incompatible ideas.
