You use accessible components but your designs still have accessibility issues. Sound familiar?

I published a 2-part series exploring why these issues persist and how to solve them with a set of design system annotations that can capture critical accessibility details.

Design system annotations, part 1: How accessibility gets left out of components
The Accessibility Design team created a set of annotations to bridge the gaps that design systems alone can’t fix and proactively addresses accessibility issues within Primer components.

I am a climate scientist and this is correct ⬇️
Occasional reminder that there’s no, “it’s too late, its over” for anthropogenic climate change. Every molecule of CO2 that doesn’t go into the atmosphere makes a difference. Preventing 0.1 degree of warming makes a difference. Every bit of climate resilience we build together makes a difference.

I firmly believe after this year what my physical therapist told me: every human should have a fully paid for annual evaluation and care session by a physical therapist. It’s wild to see how much I just accepted my body was “broken” (it’s not!) and I know I’m not the only one.

So to summarize, according to #maga, any Black, gay or trans person who achieves any position, no matter how degreed or credentialed they are is an unqualified #dei hire. And any white person, however unqualified or even sketchy is inherently qualified when they get a job. Do I have that right?

For folks who didn’t know, I recently returned from medical leave for post concussive symptoms from December 2023 injury. A major symptom for me was an unstable parasympathetic nervous system that couldn’t properly restore.

I’m doing a lot better, but man, at least half of 2024 is a blur.

The feeling when you redownload an app and realize you were a whole ass different gender expression when you last used it. Damn. 😅

Last night was the first night I made eye contact with a rideshare driver, confirmed my name, and watched him drive off then cancel my ride solely based on my appearance (I was in drag and covered so the only thing really “weird” was pink hair in pigtails). Like…what?

Healing is a fricking WILD ride because you end up moving trauma your parents or grandparents bestowed to you as an egg and then don’t know what to do with these cleared spaces so you just end up anxious regardless. Reminding myself that comfort doesn’t always mean safety 🥲🥲🥲

Hi folks! Have moved over to BlueSky in hopes social media doesn’t continue to make my blood pressure rise 😂

I’m not super active because turns out a) touching grass is great for my health and b) I have like 3 jobs? Lives? And only 24 hours in a day.

Hoping to add links to talks soon.
