Proud husband. Employment lawyer who also likes golf, films, video games, politics. Strictly personal views.
Just came back from seeing Inside No9 Stage/Fright. Tears of laughter from start to finish. @reece-shearsmith.bsky.social and the other one were brilliant, it was definitely one for the fans and I’m just said we won’t see any more 9s.

I could’ve written the script for this one.
Just locking in my prediction - Charlotte to get voted out, followed by Alexander, followed by Frankie. Jake and Leanne to win #Traitors

Watched episode 1 of The Day of The Jackal. I love the book & 1973 film (in a ‘what if James Bond was a contract killer’ kind of way). Eddie Redmayne nails his Edward Fox impression and it felt like a solid reimagining (in a ‘what is Craig’s Bond was a contract killer’ kind of way) - worth a watch.

My recurring nightmare is that I’m a civil servant and Richard Hermer is telling me “No tenable legal argument exists to justify the decision or policy”.
The Attorney General has published revised guidance on legal risk. It is an important statement about the government’s approach to the rule of law. Like the Ministerial Code, also published today, it contains a commitment to comply with both domestic & international law www.gov.uk/government/p...

Anyone looking for a decent horror film this Halloween I watched Late Night With the Devil whilst on the plane home. Had a grin on my face from start to finish. It nails the cheesy talk show feel but with a horror element that builds really well, without being so terrifying you can’t watch. Strong 👍

Goes to show we should wait for the actual budget statement before making snap judgments based on media speculation.

Employment lawyers - we need more webinars/seminars/podcasts on dealing with difficult litigants in person. It’s always tricky when you start to wonder if someone is seeking to gain an advantage from their ignorance of the system they chose to engage in.

Watched The Penguin, episode 2, and the main takeaway is that we seem to have lost the art of the opening title sequence, and it seems to have coincided with the end of the “Golden Age of Television”. Coincidence?

I take it all back. They’re a breeze. Just be yourself.
Job interviews are an unpleasant experience for all involved. The interviewee is trying to shoehorn their talking points and prove they really have spent hours researching the company. The interviewer is trying to get a genuine feel for the individual despite putting them in a false environment.

As an Employment Lawyer who once worked on the shop floor in Next this is fascinating and highlights the folly of relying solely on the ‘market rate’ for a job. Interested to see what grounds Next appeals on.

In-store staff, who are mostly women, should be paid the same as warehouse workers, a tribunal rules.

It’s still August and already it feels like it’s starting to get dark at 5pm. Life is pain.

If true, I can see this being one of those matters that’s bolted on to the list of issues in almost every ET claim

Do you think AI is going to become the new ‘Dr Google’ for people with legal problems? It’s a bit too easy to ask GPT KC a legal question and get an answer that looks intelligent (notwithstanding accuracy). I wonder if we need to train ourselves to unpick whatever messes the machines get people into

Halfway through My Name on Netflix. It’s really hooked me more than anything else I’ve watched in the last few months. Worth a try if you’re happy watching shows with subtitles (can’t comment on the dubbed version)

I need a new video game - preferably one that is challenging/engaging, has a good story, but is also one I can play for less than an hour at a time (due to the demands of adult life). Any suggestions welcome.
