One cute GO-SHIP tradition is that when we get to our deepest station (6280m!), we decorate styrofoam cups and let the pressure shrink them into fun souvenirs. I'm thinking of making mine into a Christmas ornament

I'm a bit over a week into my research cruise with GO-SHIP and finally over my cyclone-induced round two of seasickness! This is what my CTD work station looks like - I'm in charge of telling the winch operator the depths we want to look at and then remotely closing bottles to collect water samples.

Day 2: I think I've mostly adjusted to the constant rocking. Today, we swapped out all the O rings on the CTD and learned how to set it up. Excited for our test station tomorrow!

For the next 38 days, I'll be aboard the Thomas G. Thompson as a CTD watchstander. This is my first research cruise, so I'll give updates on life at sea! 🌊🧪
