I had a hard time capturing how huge the turnout was in Oak Park today! It made me feel very proud to live here. 🚫👑 #nokings #indivisible #indivisiblechicago @50501movement.bsky.social @indivisible.org @indivisiblechicago.bsky.social

I’m not going to tell people how to feel about protests… at least not today.

Instead, I’ll recommend Sarah Schulman’s book about ACT UP. It’s not just a history of the organization; she also talks strategy in a very practical way, especially regard coalitions.

Some question whether protests work, because they won’t cause Trump to change his mind. They are missing the point.
Wisconsin was proof, money can’t buy an election if the people are engaged.
Now politicians see that they should fear us more.

The '3.5% rule': How a small minority can change the world
Nonviolent protests are twice as likely to succeed as armed conflicts – and those engaging a threshold of 3.5% of the population have never failed to bring about change.

To the world:
We are fighting back. Our movement has been silenced by the media here—but we are not backing down. This is what our streets looked like across multiple cities. Tomorrow, there will be more of us! Raise a glass to freedom.

So inspired by how many folks came out in Oak Park, IL to protest the fraud, abuse, and mismanagement of the current administration!! The energy was amazing. People were kind and peaceful and there was near constant honking from supportive people driving by as we marched down Lake St.

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.
