Sort of like a hard boiled riff on Stand by Me with some supernatural horror thrown in. Involving story, but the author has a penchant for repetition that underlines his themes more than necessary.

You can immediately tell he's still got it, a blessing and a curse. Some scenes and characters are terrific, but the frequent inscrutability never adds up to much. Still, by setting it in the 1930s, the parallels to our current times are both eerie and instructive.

Today would have been my dad’s 71st birthday. In his honor, my wife made some boozy cupcakes (his favorite). No candles, so in lieu of them I would like to gently remind you to contact your loved ones.
