My best doggy Douglas left us today. He spent eleven of his twelve years with us. He was the most affectionate, goofy companion; he was an avid reader of books and a terrific shedder of fur.

Dogs should live forever. It's very, very, very dumb that they have to leave us.

This novel, about white people who wake up to find they've turned brown, astonished me. For starters, it's a parable about race and perception--how we see each other and ourselves. The writing is so beautiful that Doug drooled on it today.

Just finished Colored Television by Danzy Senna. Great read. And Doug thought it smelled great.

Here's my old dog Doug with Vinnie the foster puppy, who definitely won't be calm tomorrow night. We will all try to be like Doug.

What kind of dummy takes in a foster puppy in the middle of a busy semester? Me. I'm the dummy.

He's so cute, though.

"A person with a journeying, experimental soul should be living a life that allowed for it"--Miranda July, ALL FOURS

I loved so much of this irreverent, raunchy, tender book about perimenopause, desire, grief, and love.
