"They are gonna make the Looney Tunes gay"

My brother in christ. We already have a gay Bugs Bunny, and his name is Bugs Bunny.

the moral of this story is that it's okay for things to be mortal. nothing has to live forever. sometimes you just have to accept reality, let go, and move forward. that's part of growing up and accepting the realities of what it means to be human. death happens. tomorrow comes, and we continue.

renoir directly apologizes to sciel and lune for them and their whole society getting dragged into this mess while acknowledging their sapience. it's a heartbreaking moment. he's not happy about what he's been doing. he's not gommaging thousands of people for the fun of it. it's been wearing on him.

esquie and monoco have both lived very, very long lives. so did verso's painted family. none of the lumièrans deserved to die, and they were all very young, but the fact that they were created the way they were in the first place was already an act of cruelty. they were created as set dressing

i agree that it sucks that the canvas world is gone, but it was on the verge of destruction regardless. all humans had already been erased, and the only ones brought back were either maelle's two previous traveling companions, or a bunch of expeditioners she's temporarily using as weapons.

the lyrics to aux lendemains non écrits imply a brighter future. they're grieving now, but there are still endless possibilities before them. and that especially applies to alicia, who is still young and has her whole life ahead of her. her disabilities aren't a death sentence
December 6, 2025 at 3:15 PM
which implies that alicia herself is loved, that she and her father are affectionate with each other, and aline has been kind enough to her that she has reason to show loyalty and protectiveness. hell, alicia willingly goes into the canvas in the first place to rescue both of them. there's love here
December 6, 2025 at 3:15 PM
painted alicia is treated with care. painted renoir is so sweet to her and so protective. they're physically and emotionally affectionate. p alicia siding with aline at the manor in old lumière implies that aline has been kind to her. these are people based on the outside world's renoir and alicia

clea's spirit inside the canvas also has moments of gentleness with her. she's rolling her eyes, but she's still giving her encouragement. she puts together a whole gauntlet of battles for her to just fight through if she feels like taking the leisure time to challenge herself, just for fun
December 6, 2025 at 3:15 PM
clea is probably the harshest to her, but even she still has her best interests at heart. clea is just really frustrated right now. despite the fact that she truly loved her brother and the world they created, she's ready to move on, and she just wants the rest of her family to stop wallowing
December 6, 2025 at 3:15 PM
we're given plenty of indication throughout the narrative that alicia's family loves her. aline is cold to her because she's grieving, but she didn't always treat her that way. renoir is implied to have been a kind and doting father to her. verso refers to her as the true favorite child.
December 6, 2025 at 3:15 PM
he reminds her that she is incredibly talented and has the capability of creating her own worlds if she wishes. maelle/alicia isn't condemned to live in misery. she can paint her own canvas if she wishes and live whatever life she wants to. she has the freedom to make that choice.
December 6, 2025 at 3:15 PM
not to keep beating a dead horse but another thing that grinds my gears is people's failure to acknowledge that verso's actions in his ending aren't entirely selfish. look at what he says as he comforts maelle. he wants her to process her grief and move on. he wants her to be with her family
December 6, 2025 at 3:15 PM
either way maelle's ending gives me the ick. but that's what our fix-it is for. please look forward to it
December 6, 2025 at 7:00 AM
and there's no indication that he continues to play more concerts after this. for all we know, this could be the first and only

also pverso is mortal now so he's going to die eventually in any case. hardly "until the end of time"
December 6, 2025 at 6:59 AM
that said, "you will play the piano until the end of time" is also a misinterpretation of the ending. the scene is implied to take place several years after the end of the game and this would appear to be verso's first public concert within that time period, just going off the earlier camp scene
December 6, 2025 at 6:59 AM
i don't think necromancy is a good thing is what i'm getting at here
December 6, 2025 at 3:22 AM
sciel expressing a desire to have pierre revived was honestly very disturbing to me and gave me the impression that maelle had repainted her with the implicit desire to live forever, because that's what maelle wants for her found family. she can't emotionally handle death, at all
December 6, 2025 at 3:22 AM
the idea that you're simply preventing a genocide by forcing a guy to play the piano one time is a total misreading of maelle's ending and completely disregards the game's underlying narrative of a family going through the five stages of grief

i will seriously never understand these people
