It's about as camp as the version with Cher in every role, but they're extremely earnest about it

So what you're suggesting is that you don't seek out Johann Kaspar Aiblinger 14 Vesper Hymns on a regular basis?

Rather tickled that Annibale Orgas (no, me neither), the only composer to appear more than once has a three-sentence wikipedia page.

Interesting! I was recently doing some research into the history of male choirs here in Norway, and a lot of the material made similar remarks, especially in the kinds of repertoire that was written for the two different kinds of choirs.

I was just listening to the album, and i agree. Lots of variety (and some really lovely pieces for that matter)

Yes, exactly! One of the main reasons I struggle with string quartets
November 26, 2025 at 11:46 AM
We MUST have talked about it at some point! I did make it part of the whole brand, but then my master's degree got in the way and I kind of stopped playing. It's still up there, languishing in the loft.

Yes, exactly. I'm originally a trombonist, and don't mind listening to a lot of brass chamber music, a genre I know many of my musician friends would run screaming away from.

If you mainly review instrumental chamber music and orchestral records, then maybe you're just not used (enough) to listening to sustained singing?
November 26, 2025 at 11:05 AM
Yeah, you'd think so. I suspect it's to do with musical background as well as prestige. As an avid choral singer, I don't mind an hour and a bit of singing, but maybe a percussionist or string player would?

Mind, this is not a complaint I tend to have (apart from the programming thing, especially when it comes to newer music), but I've read and listened to several reviews where that has been one of the big complaints.
November 26, 2025 at 10:52 AM
Extended exposure to choral music, at least, especially a capella stuff (some of which can certainly feel a bit samey after a while, although that is, I would argue, more down to poor programming than the singing itself).
November 26, 2025 at 10:50 AM
I'm sure it's to do with where one sources reviews, but I do find that to be quite a common complaint, especially with albums of vocal and choral music. (Not to say that there isn't a sexist tinge to the comment you posted, but I think a lot of people struggle with extended exposure)
