To make matters worse, the government is planning to overturn the National Language Policy (2022), the only real hope for these languages and the cultures they represent. If implemented, this action would amount to cultural suicide.

Nigeria is a linguistically diverse country with more than 512 languages. Unfortunately, most of these languages are not protected by the government, largely because the Nigerian government rarely funds programs related to indigenous language education and revitalization.
