Highly misleading headline. I suppose it wouldn't look as "shocking" if it actually quoted the true position, namely "450,000 unspent pension fund and a £290,000 house...." Poor journalism.

2nd incident in a week on the same rail line - both caused by drivers of vehicles causing massive damage and huge inconvenience to passengers.

Name a UK Nuclear Power Station build that has come anywhere close to budget. And while you are at it explain the disposal of nuclear waste...
Solar / wind may be 100% of the answer but 1. built on time and with the cost overrun never falling on the taxpayer and 2. No hazardous waste is produced.

Better still, start removing underpasses. Here in Leeds the local authority has removed all the pedestrian underpasses in the city centre and replaced them with quality surface crossings. The result is a vast improvement for pedestrians.

The non-articulated version of this "bus" (as that is what it is) have just started running on a route in South London for TfL. Fully electric with pantograph top-up stations at a couple of stops. It's running a long route - around 15 miles.

Surely there is a Fail to Stop / Fail to Report offence made out as clear as daylight here - regardless of who did or didn't report the incident.
