As full RTO seems to have won out over remote/hybrid work, I have a sense the next bad idea to be rediscovered will be electronic performance monitoring (EPM).

Some specific recommendations👇
• Do not expect performance improvements, anticipate CWBs
• Expect negative reactions, especially perceived invasion of privacy
• Provide preparation, transparency, communication, & participation
• Evaluate effects especially negative ones

EPM is paradoxical since it does have positives.. canceled out by negatives:
1️⃣ Employees focus on what’s monitored, neglecting what isn't
2️⃣ Employee motivation goes from intrinsic to extrinsic, now requiring upkeep
3️⃣ Employees use SOPs by the book, avoiding creative solutions

EPM does not boost performance, and has tons of negative effects:
🔺 Higher counterproductive workplace behaviors (slacking, sabotage)
🔺 Higher employee stress
🔺 Higher privacy concerns, seriously impacting job sat
🔻 Lower employee autonomy, an important driver of job sat

For sure. The authors even recommend dialing back the focus to try to get after those +1 SD homies
