What about surface morphometry, white matter organization, functional connectivity? More to come from this unique sample. Further, we will attempt to replicate these findings in HBCD!

These findings align with those of Paul et al. (2020), who found that PCE was associated with lower total gray matter volume in the ABCD study (in our case, total brain volume).

Why was there no regional effects (amygdala/hippocampus) but a global effect? We had a limited sample size (infant MRI is difficult) which likely resulted in the amygdala/hippocampus analyses being underpowered.

Analysis used IPTW and controlled for maternal race/ethnicity, maternal education level, maternal health insurance type, and maternal age. The group difference persisted when also including maternal stress as a covariate.

T1- and T2-weighted structural images were obtained during the infant's natural sleep. The structural analysis focused on global structural metrics and the volume of the hippocampus/amygdala.

We focus on two major limitations in previous studies of PCE and brain development: 1. reliance on maternal self-report for PCE 2. offspring scanned several months to years after prenatal period.
We used biological sampling to determine PCE (blood, cord blood, urine, meconium).

We found consistent evidence as Paul et al., 2020 that found PCE was associated lower total gray matter volume in the ABCD study.
