In a dictatorship, "The People" are props, not actual participants. They are held up for the cameras and tape recorders for all to see as those hapless victims needing the state's brawny protection, not as active members of a body politic with agency and a vote in government affairs.

If you think Auschwitz was bad, read Iris Chang's "The Rape of Nanking," (1997, Basic Books) which was required reading in my advanced Chinese History course at university. It will leave you cold, and baffled why it's considered the "forgotten Holocaust" of WWII given its horrors.

Trump is trying to dig the corpse of John Adams and his Seditious Act of 1798 from the grave. It won't work; the bones are too brittle and will just crumble. Plus, we're not at war with France. All the tyrant can do is spew his filth and try to demonize reporters doing their protected civic duty.
