Omg. This is like every time I’ve been at a wedding with mostly white people i don’t know, and they always ask me to “show [them] what I’ve got” on the dance floor. Me: 😑

If they had only just thought through this reference attemfor like, I dunno, maybe 10 seconds longer, maybe they would've realized the error of their ways

I mean, if they’re that huge I guess you can stretch that out across 2-3 meals. But still—food portions have gotten extreme on both ends!

I just…especially in an era of widespread food insecurity, it just makes me sick that the places that used to be reliably affordable for those of us living paycheck to paycheck are just out here charging more for way less. 😡

Yeah, it sucked terribly. There were quite a few other writers like you I had that experience with. I feel so bad.

I’m mostly angry that I spent almost as much time arguing about our coverage as I did actually generating that coverage. It really brings down the value of the work in ways they refuse to acknowledge.

Tried to explain this exact point to the higher ups in an effort to prove “both sidesing” everything is a fruitless exercise. They didn’t care! (Because let’s be real, they believed some of that shit themselves)

Oh, Jen, the mechanics of the op-ed section were so screwy. I’m shocked I was able to get pubbed even a fraction of the pieces I did—from people of color, queer people, “unknowns,” etc. There were so many more authors I tried to get pubbed and couldn’t because of the imbalance of the scrutiny.

No place is perfect, and few pubs are as powerful as NYT. I can understand why some would consider it to be poisoned based on … *everything*, right up to today. (“Have women ruined the workplace?” Looolol fuck all the way off!) Unfortunately, like everything else…it’s still kinda complicated
