Understanding politics in anime and manga means understanding what ideologies they embed in our subconscious.
When ideology is narrated to the masses, through words, images, or pacing, it’s already political.

This duality exists in anime and manga too.
As Colleen discusses this "Art is politics" in their video, I also can see it in the contrast between Sailor Moon and Puella Magi Madoka Magica, as I am researching on both franchises.

Autonomous artists are just as political as collective ones.
Both tell stories, one through the politics of emotion, as Sara Ahmed describes in her book, the other through Utopian ideals.

It’s an autonomous form of art and politics, the individual asserting presence against imposed systems.
Both anarchists, precisely: "individualist-anarchism", and Dadaists reject even benevolent systems that threaten autonomy or personal identity in collective agency.

Dadaism’s rejection of traditional narrative mirrors Anarchism’s rejection of political systems.
Both embrace "direct-action" and "propaganda by deed" as critique and resistance; the act itself becomes the message.

Narrative pacing shapes our psychological understanding of ideas and meaning.
You might ask, what about Dadaism, it doesn’t have a clear narrative?
Actually, it does, in its own way.

In novels, manga, and comics, the writer controls pacing.
In music, it’s the composer, through tempo, rhythm, and phrasing, who influences our visual imagination and emotions through sound.

In film, anime, and animation, the director shapes the ideological signature, not the writer. (Unless is writer-director)
Why? Because the director controls time, the pacing of the narrative in the film.

We sell ideas that serve our personal or collective sense of agency.
Ideologies can exist autonomously or collectively.
For example, socialist feminism and anarcha-feminism explore different balances between autonomy and collective benefit in the same school.

It sells something to you.
It doesn’t matter what the product is, in this case, the “product” is ideology.
Our own ideology, our worldview, is what we express and share; now... through art!

They’d probably panic if they knew that Media and Communication students, Film Studies students, and Political Studies students are often under the same Faculty in many universities, sometimes even sharing the same classes.
So really, don’t bother. Let them eat cake.

If research-based content is judged solely by formal degrees, we risk turning knowledge into a polarized system of institutional validation, rather than genuine concerned individuals for the subject itself.

A degree isn’t a perfect solution, especially when it can be bought on the black market in some countries, and even many universities aren’t exactly adequate.
