Talks about: internet governance, counter-violent extremism, and counter-disinformation but (mostly) movies

(He/Him)
Yes you're so right. I'm an idiot. There's no reason for the current US administration to openly threaten Ireland for imposing any regulatory governance of social media companies.

"if" they have assets that be reached by the European Union. Bitch, please.
November 26, 2025 at 9:34 PM
"unless they have assets in Ireland".

You said that Irish courts only have jurisdiction over internet entities which are incorporated or that have assets in Ireland. That is demonstrably false.

In or out Timmy?

“I would be shocked if anyone on the thread said this thing”

“Ok, well two people said that, *but* my point still stands in”

As a rule, when that *but* appeared is when you lost anything approximating the high ground.

Just admit that *maybe* you marched onto the thread without due attention.
November 26, 2025 at 7:06 PM
Nope that’s not what happened. There were a bunch of really stupid comments about Irish libel law and its enforceability.

What’s happened afterwards is a bunch of (apparently very bored American lawyers) with too much time on their hands started to get pedantic about “enforceability”
November 26, 2025 at 6:37 PM
Go nuts.
November 26, 2025 at 6:22 PM
For fucks sake Brian. The post I responses to described the decision to settle as “spineless”

You spend so much time lecturing others on what has and hasn’t been said. You d even *screenshotted* this post multiple
November 26, 2025 at 6:16 PM
Whether an organisation is based in Ireland or has assets in Ireland is utterly irrelevant in transnational libel and defamation cases. He's wrong.
November 26, 2025 at 5:19 PM
Followed by. Yeah, you really dont get sarcasm.
November 26, 2025 at 5:04 PM
Oh "can we"?

Thank you so much Enrique the moderator and adjudicator of what is and isn't relevant and worthy of this discussion.
November 26, 2025 at 4:47 PM
So, you just wanted to be a show-off dick without actually contributing to the thread or learning about the issue everyone was talking about.

Gobshite.
November 26, 2025 at 4:40 PM
But we *are* talking about this case.

Someone interjecting a hypothetical into the situation without clarifying that it was speculation, which has lead to you arguing about something that isn't happening for several posts now.

Yeah
November 26, 2025 at 4:19 PM
This poster claimed the only court that could possibly have jurisdiction here was an American court. The other poster argue there is no way for a court outside of America to rule on this issue.

Both of these things are unequivocally false.
November 26, 2025 at 4:13 PM
No. That is not what happened. Someone claimed that since the article was published online by an American company American libel/defamation law applies.

That isn't remotely true.

You've got your knickers in a twist about the payout part of things.
November 26, 2025 at 4:08 PM
Yes, congratulations, you've all created a strawman that doesn't necessarily meet the facts of this case, nor acknowledge the specifics of these circumstances.
November 26, 2025 at 4:02 PM
So you cannot look at the ruling.

You're not going to double check elsewhere, but you're just going to go ahead and assume it doesn't alter the situation.

You must be *an incredible* lawyer.

PS Congratulations

A movie that takes place where I am from.

(Grabbers is like an Irish version of Tremors, set on a remote Donegal Island, with the twist that aliens/eldritch horrors are deathly allergic to alcohol.

So, to survive, ours heroes must do battle, by ensuring they are moderately pissed at all time.

"We need to stand up against unaccountable NGOs", says Maria Steen, spokesperson for the Irish. NGO, The Iona Institute. At the "Battle Of Ideas", an event hosted by Gript Media, a wholly owned subsidiary of The Life Institute, another NGO.

We could just build a prison around the Burkes' house? It would be terribly convenient for all concerned.

Russell Brand's (who is awaiting trial for alleged sexual assault) podcasts are still available on Spotify, Amazon and Apple's podcasting hosting services.

He's one of several extremists who are allowed to disseminate their propaganda on mainstream platforms.
