Reading your article from last week got me interested in atproto. I'm wanting to spin up a new site and host a blog and was thinking about leveraging atproto in some way, tying in eaflet looks like it has potential. Your comment about pulling in comments was also something I was hoping to explore!

I think this angle makes a lot of sense in the current landscape. If atproto were to become easier to build upon in the future, do you ever see it become more of a "default" and no longer falling into the category of "the hard way"? That's when the earlier points may be more applicable.

Ideally the community would realize and choose to not use such a service in the spirit of the protocol, but as you pointed out in the article, not all users of social media are deep in the technical weeds. They may not understand that an app has this string attached and are feeding it's momentum.

From your article it's very clear that openness is at the forefront of the design decisions of atproto. Is there anything that stops some theoretical company coming along and using atproto as a backbone and filling it with json that only works within their app?

Hey Dan, extremely well written article! It really helped illuminate what goes on behind the scenes at Bluesky and other atproto services. One thought that came across my mind was in regards to atproto "rules". Is there anything preventing encrypted data from being put into the atmosphere?

Interesting preventative measure. I wonder if they also have something in place to prevent the bots from giving out codes. I wonder what are these bots even doing with clublog data.

I think pushing the envelope on how thin they can make the iPhone hardware aligns perfectly with the rumored apple foldable coming in the following year or so - Ideally something that's 2x the thickness of the air when folded up. It still catches me by surprise how thin my zfold 7 is when unfolded.

I’m eyeing the upcoming Yaesu ftx-1f for portable operation and it sounds like it should be able to make it up to the station without issue! Thanks for the tip!

I’m of the opinion that things were made they way they are to fit the aesthetic of the game. Back in the 80’s a lot of these concepts we know and love weren’t as refined. They likely did this on purpose as a callback to how things once were. I found the delay in movement in magic garden to be tough.

Im not a fan of Apple driving a wedge when it comes to human social interaction. With iMessage exclusivity and now this invites thing, it feels like they’re trying to “win over” customers by bullying them into feeling accepted by their peers rather than having a superior product.

Some of my favorites are pihole and home assistant. Primarily software based but super useful for a home network!
