Absolutely not. I’ve been a UU for 30 years and a member of several congregations over that time, and I’ve never heard this sort of nonsense, from congregants or from clergy.

Public transit reduces but doesn’t eliminate driving for me. I need a way to get to the rapid transit station.
I’d love to bike commute, but my only routes are through sketchy areas, and there are a very limited number of bike racks once I get there.

It was the only one we picked up that was FREE. It was if she couldn’t wait to get rid of it. 🤔

I absolutely did that. Grew up Southern Baptist, left the church, then found Unitarian Universalism. Been a UU for 30 years now by choice.

I’ve been a Unitarian Universalist and an atheist for thirty years. Part of our congregation’s covenant (with each other) states that “We speak for ourselves, without the need to defend ourselves, or to persuade each other.”

I have gotten a lot of the same “helpful advice” when I am open about my bipolar disorder. Naming the condition makes others aware, which in turn helps tear down the stigma.
