Miyazaki's last 2 films are reexaminations of beauty in a time of crises (fascism). In The Boy and The Heron really the boy enters the looking glass for escape. Only to find the fantastical morphed by the horrors of the mirror-real world. Terrifying. No escape. Thus a better world must be worked on.
