It often gets reduced to just “compute”, as in “we need to buy more compute”. I think it’s a sort of in-group jargon, tinged with the usual “I’m too important to spell out what I mean, and anyone who matters will understand”.

I think they somehow conflate the very small number of highly selective schools (with Harvard as the prototypical example) with basically every other school in existence.

That sucks. Consider a strep test — in my experience, that’s what makes for the worst sore throats, and the upside is that if that’s it, it gets better very quickly with antibiotics.
