Sadly, our research has found that more than a third of women have been patronised because of their age since turning 50.

Culture is important because it determines how your work is delivered — it directly affects business success as well as employee engagement.
We know that 36% of 50-70 year olds feel at a disadvantage applying for jobs due to their age How might ageism show up? Wording and images in job descriptions What can you do? Review your job adverts and job descriptions Accessing health and work benefits How might ageism show up? People in their 50s and 60s leave the workplace early because their needs are not being met What can you do? Have 'health and work' as a standard item at meetings and 1:1's Workers aged over 50 are less likely than any other age group to receive on-the-job training How might ageism show up? Workers over 50 not taking part in learning and development initiatives What can you do? Ensure L&D is discussed each month at 1:1's Social spaces How might ageism show up? Ageist 'banter' - birthday cards that emphasise ageing stereotypes What can you do? Call out inappropriate 'banter' and ageist comments – don't let it slide

As our days get colder, its crucial to recognise that more older people are at risk of health issues from cold homes. 60% of excessively cold homes are occupied by at least one person over the age of 55.16. This is unacceptable.

In our conversations with older people in Middlesbrough and Knowsley, there was considerable dissatisfaction with the run-down nature of neighbourhoods and town centres and the loss of shops and other physical amenities...

We are celebrating having reached 100 members of the Age-friendly Communities Network and are spotlighting some of our network members.
“Sense Ability Matters are undertaking five walkability audits on behalf of the Local Authority. The first was of South Shields Town Centre, those with lived experience took part, in their report they said: It actually feels as though we’re being listened to.” Says South Tyneside Council.

Today our Chief Executive, @caroleeaston.bsky.social, gave evidence to the Health and Social Care Committee on physical activity in an ageing society.

She highlighted the urgent need for a Commissioner for Older People and Ageing to address the huge gap in national policymaking around ageing.

Falls are the biggest causes of accidents in the home and place huge pressures on health services.
