1. A court ordered the federal government to return the search-and-rescue helicopter to Newport.

2. We hosted a public safety roundtable with statewide law enforcement to improve community safety.

3. We sent a letter demanding federal officers stop using excessive force against Oregonians.

The letter details a months-long pattern of excessive force by DHS personnel. It also serves as formal notice that we - with 3 DAs - are actively monitoring federal conduct and will investigate any case where a federal officer appears to be acting outside the reasonable scope of their duties.

This is about community safety: The sudden removal of the helicopter – without public notice, community consultation, or risk assessment required under federal law – has left one of the most dangerous stretches of the Pacific Coast without timely aerial rescue coverage.
