I’m Adam, building Afaq, a geography app about understanding how the world fits together — not memorizing facts.

What’s a geography misconception you had for way too long?

A country’s size, location, borders, capital — anything.

Maps have a way of humbling people.

Oceania has been one of the hardest regions to design quizzes for — managing the small islands is tricky.

I’ve just updated the map quiz to improve clarity and make selecting islands easier, sharing a short clip below.

Would love thoughts on whether this feels more approachable.

I’m working on a new map feature that will serve as the entire geography progress tracker.

The idea is that the map shows mastery, lets users favorite places, shows weak areas, and links directly to study sections.

If you were using this feature, what would you want to see?

What’s a geography misconception you had for way too long?

Could be a country’s size, location, borders, or even a capital city.

Maps have a way of humbling you.

Been building out physical geography quizzes for Afaq — mountain ranges, rivers, lakes, forests, deserts.

Functionally they work, but I’m not happy with how these features look on the map yet.

Curious how others think these should be visualized.

Feedback very welcome 👀

Quiet update, but one I’m excited about:

I refined the Afaq logo to better reflect what the app’s becoming — less “map tool,” more “learning game.”

Still exploring the balance between playful and clean, but this feels closer.

Thoughts welcome 🙂

Built a new Focus feature in Afaq.

Every day, users get a small set of tasks:
• review
• take a test
• drill one weak area

It’s meant to remove decision fatigue and keep learning consistent.

(also… brand update coming soon 👀)

Small update on the River Trace quiz.

The scoring system is starting to behave — not perfect, but definitely more consistent.

In the clip are examples of:
• a near-correct path
• a very off-path attempt

It’s already feeling real.
Curious what people think 👀

Trying a new game in Afaq: River Trace.

The idea — follow a river’s path from A to B — get rated on how accurately you traced it.

Scoring is... not behaving😅

Here's an early look, I’m curious how people feel about drawing/precision tasks in learning games.

What’s a country you were shocked to learn borders way more (or way fewer) neighbors than you expected? 👀🌍

Mine was DR Congo — no idea it was connected to that many places.
January 20, 2026 at 12:40 AM
What’s a country you didn’t realize was that big or that small until you saw it on a map? 😂🌍

Mine was Madagascar. Way bigger than my brain expected.

What’s a country you were absolutely sure you knew the location of… until someone asked you to point it out? 😂🌍

Mine was Ghana for way too long.

Sharing a look at another game in Afaq: Survival Run.

You’re given a country to find on the map — the game goes on until you miss.

I’m considering a global leaderboard for longest streak / best time, but curious how people feel about that.

Sharing a look at the next game in Afaq: Memory Grid.

Countries highlight briefly, then disappear — and you try to recall where they were.

You can scale it from 6–12 countries and choose 15, 30, or 45 seconds.

I tried one in the clip — curious how well you’d do 👀

Sharing 1/3 game modes from Afaq: Map Blitz.

You get 60 seconds to identify as many countries as you can by tapping them on the map.

Posting it in web view because it’s easier to show the full map this way.

This gets chaotic fast 😅

My score is in the clip — curious if anyone here can beat it

Working on something small but meaningful today: deciding when Afaq should nudge you to review something before you forget it.

Learning is so tied to timing.

Curious how people here handle spaced review or memory decay in the things they learn.
January 13, 2026 at 2:14 AM
Added a small thing I’m excited about: a Daily Challenge.

It surfaces one meaningful thing to review each day without feeling overwhelming.

I tried today’s one in the clip — I’m curious if anyone here could do it faster 👀😅

Thinking a lot about how we learn.

Some people want challenges.
Some want structure.
Some want freedom.

Designing around all three at once is… surprisingly fun.

How do you learn best?

Sharing a first look at the Advanced Analytics section of Afaq today.

It now creates a custom quiz based on areas you’re weaker in — a small step toward making geography learning more personal and meaningful.

Clip below.

As always, curious to hear what feels intuitive, and what you’d improve 🌍

Sharing a couple updates from Afaq today:

• Fixed a tricky issue in the Egypt governorates map quiz
• Polished the early review system

Putting the clips in the replies — feedback is always welcome, especially around clarity and learning flow 🌍

Sharing a small challenge from today:

The map quiz for Egypt’s governorates isn’t rendering correctly, and I’m trying to sort out the projection / SVG issues.

Posting two clips in case anyone has thoughts or suggestions.

Always open to learning 🌍

Sharing a small look at what I’ve built so far in Afaq.

A few clips in the replies: basic lessons, map learning, the review system, and a deeper look at Egypt’s governorates.

Still early, but excited with the direction.

Feedback always welcome 🌍

A small step, but it makes everything else feel more real.

App preview coming later 🌍

Today I want to share why I’m building Afaq.

Geography was always taught to me as trivia. But when you learn how regions connect, everything starts to make sense — history, culture, borders.

Afaq is my attempt to make geography feel connected and intuitive again.

Grateful to #buildinpublic 🌍

Finalized the first version of the Afaq logo today.

A small step, but it makes the project feel real.

More to come 🌍
