London based retired software dev. Mostly Java at banks.

Here it’s about pics of birds (feathered), books, retrocomputing, and happy, positive stuff.

I generally don’t DM.
I don’t trust a technology that uses so many bolt-on sensors as crutches to do something that’s relatively simple (to humans or other intelligences). Then again, JLR could do with the orders of the base cars.

I didn’t think fifa could sink any deeper into shit than this. But everyone’s going to boycott the WC right? Players and fans?

We had that but with “coding sheets” and COBOL. Had to submit them to the “computer room” where some poor sod had to type them all in, and the inevitable compilation errors printed out and put in our pigeon holes.

I had a stint with EDT (VMS) for a while then discovered vi and have been there (or thereabouts) ever since. Dabbling with Helix at the moment too.

Oh wow, the memories! Brief by Underwear. My fave editor for the DOS and 16-bit Windows era.

Editors were so varied back then. The initially bewildering PET editor that stopped moving the cursor when you typed an ". The copy cursor of the BBC micro and the Amstrad CPC (the latter having a line editor too). The Ed-like editor of the Dragon. The keyword based editor of the early ZX.All new.

All Star Trek was junk really. Mostly projecting idealised American culture and politics onto the galaxy. Some good stories though and people will have fond memories of their favourites. There is much nostalgia in newer stuff. Now it’s mostly just money of course. Like everything else.

Then there was the time the 1999 database was called Millennium Year Archive Storage System, so when the bug hit we could still pull information from MYASS.
