It's very common in Brazil. The international side being a prime example. As far back as 1970, Pelé led the team in prayer in Mexico.

When I say official channels I meant the broadcasters, principally. Increasingly, they don't show any kind of protest. But even the club channels are there to serve fans and relay what is happening. If there is 12 minutes of silence then that affects the team and fans deserve to know.

The incredible thing about this is that I saw none of this on official channels. Unless you and fans post it, it's like it never happened. The media, and especially the broadcasters, are so beholden to the league and clubs. It's so sad.

Even worse than that, I remember some Greek cafe owner in Atlanta in the 1990s. He'd ran the Olympia Café for years. The city won the right to host the Olympic games and took him to court to force him to change the name. A judge rejected his appeal. Farcical and mean.
