To me, the only obvious disadvantage to Twitter (other than frequent operational failures, the intentionally addictive and soul destroying qualities, and the fact that it was purchased by a fascist to turn it into the world's most powerful propaganda machine) is the total lack of Nick Kranz. 🤷‍♂️

That's pretty much what happened over the past two days and people still aren't coming.

That said... there are some people who would rather be at the nicer, quieter bar and enjoy a better drink regardless of where everyone else is. I guess that's what BlueSky is for.

...and you can tell everyone "hey we should all go to that other bar - it's cleaner, the music isn't so loud, the bartenders are great, drinks are better. C'mon, let's go!"

But nobody's going. They aren't going to. It isn't going to happen.

Mostly because everyone is there, and active. Not just the Cal people. Everyone.

Twitter is like a bar where the music is too loud and the bartenders suck but everyone you know and lots of people you wanna talk to are there having fun. BlueSky is like a bar that's clean, well-run, and mostly empty.

Might be an option you have to turn on or something? My DMs work but it looks like yours don't...?

Nah. It's a lot of other things too.

...I took a month off from Twitter in April and still barely used this app throughout that month.

Even when the options were BlueSky or nothing, I mostly chose nothing.

Unfortunately, when it functions correctly, Twitter is just a far superior experience.

It's a buggy mess at the moment, and the mass exodus many predicted/hoped for still isn't happening.

Yes, Elon sucks, but that isn't enough to motivate most people to move here.
