His influence has always stemmed from his control of his party and its extensive machinery, as well as from a network of companies that he directs through trusted intermediaries. He remains party leader, and his business conglomerate is now freed from the burdens of sanctions.

Bottom line: Dodik has been president and prime minister of Republika Srpska several times, and he also served in the state presidency of 🇧🇦. Yet none of these offices were ever the real source of his power.

Is this then the end of Milorad Dodik’s political influence?

It is far too early for farewells. Only in October next year, when Republika Srpska again elects a new parliament and president, will it become clear whether Dodik’s power is truly fading.

Take chapter 19 (social policy and employment). Despite “some progress” since last year, the Commission judges country’s preparedness to be somewhere between “some” and “moderate”. This level has barely improved since 2015.

She did what several of her predecessors did not dare to do: in February 2025, on the podium of the Munich Security Conference, she stated that 🇲🇪, 🇦🇱 and 🇲🇰 could be ready for membership by the end of her mandate in 2029.
