In wakefulness, deviant stimuli may evoke more localised Up states to increase saliency of, guide attention towards, and produce behavioural responses to, unexpected stimuli.

This work is the main project from my MSCA postdoc in Salamanca, from which I've learnt a great deal and loved working with my coauthors Laura Bohórquez & Manolo Malmierca!

Our work builds on a history of research in the CANELAB @incyl.bsky.social describing prediction errors in the auditory pathway & mPFC. Here we study the hierarchical predictive processing circuit while also describing the prediction errors in more detail (i.e. neural synchrony & layer specificity)
