Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. dedicated his life fighting for equity and justice. He taught us that even in the face of intimidation and discrimination, we must never stop working towards a better future – a lesson that feels especially relevant today.

There's no more spectroscopically relaxing feeling than puttering around at my desk knowing that my transient absorption system is in the middle of a run (that does not require my attention.) It's the scientific equivalent of the relaxation that comes when laundry is in the dryer.

We discovered that the best conditions for the valuable Wagner-Jauregg reaction are… 80ºC and water. For an ACS Omega special issue on advances stemming from undergraduate research, I must naturally thank my undergrad collaborators (and the always-brilliant Tartakoffs.)

I submitted grades and the F25 semester is complete! Teaching Intro Chem, Inorganic Chem, and my FY Seminar (“Science and Speculation”) was a whole cross section of the Trinity experience, supported by TAs, SIs, and academic support staff. Next: back to the laser lab for research leave!

We held our annual Chemis-Tree Department Holiday Party and there was, naturally, some arts-and-crafts time to make ornaments. I made an ornament to represent the abstract concept of the D3h symmetry point group (because it didn’t quite have the 6-fold symmetry I was initially aiming for…)

Want to know exactly the moment serotonin binds to an ion channel? Our latest work in the IJMS Advances in Fluorescent Sensors special issue shows how charge transfer to serotonin quenches the fluorescence of amino acid ANAP in the ligand binding site of 5-HT3A.

Up at dawn for the first day of Pony Finals and everything is quiet around the cottage. Ponies remain at Kentucky Horse Park during PF and the horses have headed back to Wisconsin after a busy Kentucky Summer Classic, so the paddocks are now empty.

My brother, mom, and I did a “Track Tapas” event at Lime Rock Park. We grew up in a family that loved driving, so it was (unsurprisingly) delightful to set our sports cars loose.
I also grew up reading “Car and Driver” and “Popular Mechanics,” so the drone got the “cliché comparison test photo”.
