As far as what I’ve been up to lately:

- living with my wife is the best thing ever (moved to Canada!)
- git commit -m “lots of c++ files atm”
- occasionally playing LoL ARAMs
- playing Granblue Fantasy a bit too much when not learning
- minimally keeping tabs on Worlds 2024 (G2 was giga unlucky)
I haven't written anything in ages, but I can feel the itch to do so. What should I write about? Please reply with suggestions, even if far-flung.

Getting into tech for a while now, Knicks giving me a rollercoaster of emotions, Granblue Fantasy intensifies, been out of esports for > 2 years...

Columbia grad student with a green card and a pregnant US citizen wife, abducted by ICE because of his political organizing, and now his lawyers can't find him.

Hey, @schumer.senate.gov. This is your constituent. Bring him back home.
UPDATE—Mahmoud's attorney says they do NOT know where he is.
They were first told he was sent to an ICE facility in Elizabeth, NJ. But when his 8-month-pregnant wife tried to visit him, she was told he's not there.
They've received reports he may be sent as far away as Louisiana.

My #NBA not-super-hot take: the Blazers will make the playoff play-in round over the Suns and Mavs.

I say this after looking at how that group developed over the year (and is hitting its stride), and considering the Suns’ struggles and Mavs’ injuries.

News nobody asked for, but I haven’t been on SoMe much:

- still picking up tech skills
- got a tooth pulled today. Pain begone.
- playing a bit too much GBF (for ~a year). FFXIV playtime suffered greatly.
- still retired from esports journalism but may temporarily unretie for MSI (am local)

Hol' up - even @benstiller.redhour.com is here to celebrate and commiserate w/ Knicks fans. The other site is becoming more useless by the day.

Especially nice given how bittersweet our recent free agency moves make me (us?) feel.

Many of us are echoing @timothysnyder.bsky.social's lesson in On Tyranny, "Do not obey in advance.”

A no less vital admonition that deserves attn:

STAND OUT

“...without that unease, there is no freedom. The moment you set an example, the spell of the status quo is broken, and others will follow."

ANYWAYS! I OWE A SKETCH GIVEAWAY!

But realizing now I don't have a good random picker in mind since bluesky is new?

Anyone out there have a name picker for comments or favorites for giveaways? :) Help appreciated!

I'm currently enjoying this reset of sorts over here.

What I am not enjoying is the feeling of not knowing what to post due to diverging interests.

Between esports, the NBA, gaming (GBF has consumed my time lately), the world (and people trying to make it a better place), IT/"AI", and more... idk.

It's been a minute. I'll talk about NBA observations, I guess:
- Pistons playing better than their record suggests, need to polish their offense (esp. Cade) to achieve consistency.
- Jarrett Allen doing LOTS of good things that will likely go underappreciated by non-Cavs fans.

Takeaways from Day 1 of the #NBA season (1/2):
- Boston's offense was something to behold, almost as if they didn't take a break. Passing was on point, so was the shot selection.
- Bridges needs more reps for the Knicks to be contenders. So does KAT to a much lesser degree. McBride already there.

Anyway, since there’s something about the “algorithm” keyword that enables discoverability, here I go with my interests:

- computer science
- LoL (LEC)
- basketball (NBA mainly)
- FGC
- music, esp. hiphop (80s onward)
- F1
- FFXIV
- GBF
- cooking shows
- documentaries
- world news
- and so on…

Anyway, enough about computer science and whatnot.

Esports: ever since the layoffs at Jaxon in Nov. 2022, I have been deliberately keeping myself out of working in the field.

I wouldn’t exclude a return in a part-time capacity, but that’ll be that at most.

For anyone curious about where I’m at learning-wise (1/?)
- data science fundamentals (enough to apply them in a Riot hackathon in 2023 where my group successfully calculated team Elo ratings).
Lots of Python, applied statistics fundamentals, TF/PyTorch, and cloud computing (ML ops fundamentals).

Starting over on a different app is quite intimidating, but given recent developments (or should I say decay) on another platform, it was way overdue.

I figure that I should post more about my transition to tech here.
