Under Title II, a public entity with 50 or more employees needs at least one “responsible employee” to coordinate ADA compliance. There are training certification programs that provide knowledge and skills for this role. Learn more from the Great Plains ADA Center.

The ADA National Network helps family members of people with disabilities understand the Americans with Disabilities Act. With the information we provided in 2024, half were better able to access their communities. One in five Americans are caregivers to children or adults with disabilities or eldercare needs. The ADA National Network often gets technical assistance requests from family members of people with disabilities. The most common ADA topics family members asked about were: Reasonable modification, Reasonable accommodation, General ADA information, Enforcement. About 13% of family members had a question related to a different law, the Fair Housing Act. 12% of people who called the ADA National Network were family members of people with disabilities. Since 2018, we've assisted 13,375 family members with their ADA questions. The part of the ADA that family members asked about most often was Title II, which is about state and local governments. For example, one family member wanted to know what their city was required to do to make a park walkway accessible for their relative with a mobility disability. Do you have an ADA question?
