Doesn't this go both ways, though? I get offered discounts at my local supermarket on, say, Brand B pasta sauce when the store knows I usually buy Brand A. I (and I'd guess most folks) are pretty happy to be "algorithmized" like that. But 'algorithm" is the new scary word de jour... :\.

And yes, I've done some 'lighter' comics, too :D

Yeah, the whole car-centric culture thing makes me sad, especially after having enjoyed the less-car-centric cultures of Europe and Asia.

But I'm not sure how we could realistically change that culture in the U.S. Certainly we're not gonna ever see that done top-down for many reasons :(

Hmm! But what would the purpose/goal be there?

Well those are crappy situations! :(

And before fellow public-transit geeks here bleat "AKTUALLY...", look. I love trains and buses and take them whenever it's feasible!

But they aren't gonna solve the last-mile problem, and even just substituting AVs for human-driven Ubers is *still a massive safety win*.

Human drivers kill over a million people EVERY YEAR (40K+ in the U.S. alone). Most informed and caring people would prefer that number to be smaller... a lot smaller.

It's telling that this reasonable post has ~3 likes, and apoplectic posts calling for destroying Waymos and such have dozens or hundreds of likes here.

Sheesh.

P.S. -- Posting here on Bluesky doesn't count here, unless you are one of the odd folks that is looking forward to posting here for days in advance and then feels a high for at least hours after posting ;-)

e.g., I'm grumpy, so I don't go out and the last thing I do before bed is check my work email (uh oh).

Or I'm tired, so I don't hit the gym, and then I don't get that feel-good serotonin and don't sleep as well, ending up tired and cranky the next day :(.

Calendaring joy is important!

I find that -- with *rare* exceptions -- even when I'm feeling tired or grumpy, I still end up being happy that I got off my ass and attended the event!

---

On the flip side, I've realized that NOT crafting a regular spot for joy can result in a downward spiral... :\

The *scheduled* bit is important!

- It gives you something to look forward to *regularly*.

- It often adds some group accountability, so you're less likely to ditch that weightlifting class if you know the 'regulars' there will miss you and give you a hard time.

So many leopards eating faces.

In the case of this guy who apparently would vote for Trump again, the meal target is well-deserving of the sustenancing.
